How to Make a Music Video

Here is the process and breakdown of how I made the music video for ‘Dream Popper - Hazy Memory’. I learned a lot from this project and I’m sure I’ll use the techniques I’ve learned to improve my workflows and get better results. I’m trying to help give back to a community I’ve spent so much time lurking in, in the hopes it can help others and they can help point out what I could improve. The video isn’t perfect, and it’s not for a brand new person as it’s aimed at being a short overview of my process and how I got things to go together.

I try and keep it light with little, often hidden, jokes. Definitely some tongue in cheek and possibly on the surreal side. Often whatever came to mind for me. In this process though I did start changing how I was working and moved towards more scripted near the end. Issues with audio, not having the right B-roll. It all took longer than expected but I grew in the process.

Future Sam, I hope you can look back on this and smile, as I do now.
